More Info on EXTRA

The EXTRA Program offers a more advanced level of competition for players who possess the appropriate skills, commitment and abilities. The program offers soccer development opportunities similar to club soccer but maintains the core AYSO philosophies – including a guarantee that they will play at least half of every game. Players are selected through a competitive tryout process.  Extra Teams are formed in single year Divisions through an open tryout process.

Players may not play up or down.
Players must tryout in their age division.
Players may try out and play in an age division above their age division if their age division is not offered.

*The EXTRA Program is subjected to Area K, Section 11 and AYSO National Approval. Guidelines are subject to change.

Extra Player Tryout Registration-This year players must register for the 2019 Fall Extra Program before Tryouts.  This initial registration will not include any fees, fees will not be due until teams are selected, but registration must be complete prior to tryouts. Logon or create an account on and register.

How is AYSO “EXTRA” Different from Club Soccer?

AYSO “EXTRA” is an AYSO program. Thus, everyone plays means that every player will play a minimum of one-half the game. Club soccer teams often do not offer any playing time guarantee.

The estimated cost of the AYSO “EXTRA” program is slightly more than recreational, the Primary soccer season. Club soccer costs between $1,500 - $2,000, depending upon the club and the number of tournaments that the team enters.

  • EXTRA Players pay fee of $200
  • Teams are also solely responsible for paying any tournaments they choose to enter.

·         Players selected to the EXTRA Program will commit to their teams as their priority non-school activity. It is expected that every player attends each practice and game at the agreed upon times.

·         In order to satisfy the commitment required by the EXTRA Program, players may not be enrolled and participate in other non-AYSO or Club soccer programs during the EXTRA Program season.

  • EXTRA teams will not play other Region 517 teams during the Fall season or participate in All Stars.
  • There will be some travel involved, but the games are generally in Orange County and Los Angeles Area.
  • Games are usually on weekends and there may be games on Sundays.
  • Season starts at the same time as the Region’s Fall season and usually ends a week after the end of the regular season.
  • Many teams also participate in tournaments before and after the season.

  • Teams are selected by a panel of experienced coaches.
  • All players will be notified if they have made a team or not.
  • We will not form a team if we do not think it will be competitive.
  • We will not form a team if a qualified coach is not available.

  • See below for Tryout dates and times for Fall 2019 season.
  • Players must tryout each year.
  • Players must attend at least two (2) tryouts.
